Your suggested route
The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.
Morning · Ferry and waterfront
Take an early practical ferry and walk towards Itsukushima Shrine. Check the tide first: high and low water create different shoreline experiences. Give yourself time for the arrival walk before joining a souvenir queue.
Late morning · Itsukushima Shrine
Allow 60–90 minutes for the shrine and surrounding shoreline. Follow the permitted route and appreciate how the buildings relate to the water. Walking towards the torii is not possible at every tide, so keep expectations flexible.
Lunch · Omotesando
Have a seated meal around Omotesando, choosing oysters or anago rice if they suit your preferences. Check return ferry options before the afternoon. A proper break is more enjoyable than replacing lunch with several snack queues.
Afternoon · Daishō-in and Momijidani
Visit Daishō-in and add a comfortable walk towards Momijidani if time allows. Budget two to three hours for this inland section, then return to the waterfront with a ferry buffer. An overnight stay allows a quieter evening, provided dinner is arranged.
