A route for your visit

Includes arrival and departure days, which also link to the next part of the trip.

1. Arrival day — settle in before the Eiffel Tower

   After arriving by train, leave the bags at the accommodation before walking. A central base around Châtelet connects naturally to the Seine and the Notre-Dame area. Keep the first walk short: the island streets, a break by the river and a simple meal. If you want to add a Seine cruise, search Paris on GetYourGuide and check the boarding point before choosing an evening slot.

   Notre-Dame anchors the historic island at the centre of Paris, with Gothic architecture that rewards a look from more than one angle. The outside is worth seeing from the square. Going inside is optional.

   

   The recorded Eiffel Tower booking was for the evening. For a new trip, allow for the train arrival, check-in and a rest before choosing an entry time, then plan a separate journey from the central walk. A delayed London connection shouldn't put the whole first night under pressure. Put a river cruise on another evening if you want both.

   The Eiffel Tower began as the entrance landmark for the 1889 world’s fair, and its exposed iron structure is still part of its appeal. Look at it from the street and the river, then decide if going up matters to you.

2. First full day · A Louvre visit you can enjoy

   Before the Louvre, choose a few collections you care about and check the official calendar and gallery notices. Eat before you arrive and allow a good half-day with breaks. Afterwards, lunch, the Tuileries and a river walk are a gentler continuation than another major museum. If you want a Seine cruise, this evening has more flexibility than the arrival-night Eiffel Tower booking; choose a departure that leaves room for dinner and the return journey.

   The Louvre’s former royal-palace setting is part of the museum experience alongside its collections. Pick a few rooms to enjoy properly. Don’t let one famous painting take over the visit.

   

   For the museum morning, compare Louvre admission options on Viator with the official timed ticket. Check whether the listing is admission or a guided visit before planning lunch around it.

3. Second full day · More Paris or the whole day at Versailles

   For more Paris, I’d spend the second full day around the Latin Quarter and the Seine, with a long lunch and a bakery stop whenever something looks good. Versailles is the alternative if the estate is a priority: give it the whole day, check the opening calendar and choose the areas you want to see. Include both journeys and the walking on site. A fourth night is the cleaner solution if you want both the estate and that quieter city day.

   The Latin Quarter’s association with learning and university life gives its smaller streets a different character from the monumental riverfront. A walk and a long lunch is plenty.

   Versailles makes the scale of French royal power visible through the palace and carefully arranged landscape. Give it a full day. It’s not a quick add-on to central Paris.

   

   

4. Departure · Onward to Budapest

   The next leg in my notes was a flight to Budapest. Check the exact airport and the journey from the accommodation before planning the final breakfast. Pack the night before and keep the last walk close by, with time to check out and grab your bags. A later flight can allow lunch, but it doesn't automatically create another museum day. Paris is nicer to leave over a final coffee than while stressing about a queue.

5. Meals and a shorter version

   Keep breakfast simple, have a sit-down lunch wherever you’re already exploring, and only book dinner if a particular place matters. A bakery stop is a pleasure, not an instruction to cross Paris for a croissant. With only two nights, choose the Louvre or Eiffel Tower as the main fixed point alongside the central walks, and leave the other as an exterior view if needed. You can have a very Paris-feeling visit without buying every ticket.
