Your suggested route
The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.
Day 1 morning · Culture before the camera
Begin with the Cultural Centre to understand the Aṉangu cultural landscape and visitor responsibilities. Allow about an hour, then choose the Mala or Kuniya walking area according to current access and heat. Read the interpretation and respect sections where photography is restricted.
Day 1 midday · Rest in Yulara
Return to Yulara for lunch and a rest during the hotter part of the day. This gap is intentional, not wasted sightseeing time. Use it to prepare water, layers and transport for the evening.
Day 1 evening · A designated sunset view
Travel to a permitted sunset viewing area with time to settle before the light changes. Stay within the marked area and watch the colours with your eyes as well as through the camera. Have dinner back at your accommodation or on a separately booked experience.
Day 2 morning · Kata Tjuṯa
Start early for Kata Tjuṯa and choose Walpa Gorge or a suitable Valley of the Winds option. The full Valley of the Winds circuit is a demanding Grade 4 walk taking around three to four hours, not a casual extension. Select one route according to current heat closures, fitness and available time.
Day 2 afternoon · Return and onward travel
Have lunch and leave a generous buffer before a flight or long drive. If you want the full Uluṟu base walk as well as a substantial Kata Tjuṯa hike, add another day rather than forcing both into this introductory plan.
