Your suggested route
The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.
Morning · Mount Maunganui village
Begin with breakfast in the village and a short walk through the shops. This plan currently centres on the town and accessible beachfront rather than assuming the Mauao summit or base track is open. Council information has highlighted landslide recovery work, so confirm the latest access before considering either walk.
Late morning · Main Beach foreshore
Choose an open public section of the beachfront for a 45–60-minute stroll. Enjoy the surf and the view towards Mauao from outside restricted areas. Stay clear of barriers and closed reserve entrances even if other visitors appear to be using them.
Lunch · A village meal
Return to the village for lunch and a rest. This is a good place to make the trip about a relaxed coastal day rather than measuring it against the famous summit photograph.
Afternoon · Tauranga waterfront alternative
If you want a second setting, travel to central Tauranga for a waterfront walk and café. Otherwise remain in Mount Maunganui for a longer beachside afternoon. Add a hill walk only after official confirmation that the specific route is open and suitable.
