Jeju: an eastern-island introduction

A suggested itinerary based in Jeju City and the east coast. Allow 3 days.

Your suggested route

The times below are suggested allowances, not live opening hours or transport schedules. Adjust the order for your arrival time, bookings and conditions.

  1. Day 1 · Arrival · Jeju City to an eastern base

    Collect your transport or meet your driver, have lunch and travel towards an eastern-island base if that suits your accommodation plan. Add one coastal stop, such as Hamdeok, only if conditions and arrival time allow. Keep the evening simple rather than circling the island.

  2. Day 2 · Morning · Seongsan Ilchulbong

    Visit Seongsan Ilchulbong and allow 90 minutes to two hours for the stepped ascent and views if access and weather permit. Sunrise is optional; check actual admission arrangements before planning a pre-dawn climb. Enjoy the lower area if the ascent is unsuitable.

  3. Day 2 · Afternoon · Seopjikoji

    Have lunch near Seongsan, then explore Seopjikoji’s coastal paths for about 90 minutes. Expect exposed wind and choose a comfortable turnaround. Finish with a café and dinner near your eastern base instead of driving to the opposite side of Jeju.

  4. Day 3 · Udo or a mainland coast day

    If the ferry is operating and your onward timing permits, choose a dedicated Udo outing with enough time for the return. Otherwise explore another nearby coastal area and have a relaxed lunch. A same-day flight may make the mainland option more sensible.

  5. Departure · Leave room for the airport

    Return towards Jeju City with a generous buffer for road delays and any vehicle return. If you want both a full Udo day and an unhurried departure, add a night. This eastern introduction deliberately leaves Hallasan and the western coast for a longer trip.

Where to pause for food

Try a local seafood meal if it suits you, checking prices and seasonal availability, or choose black pork at a restaurant with clear portions. Keep lunch close to the day’s main sights. Do not drive across the island purely to visit a social-media café.

Getting around

A properly licensed rental car or arranged driver makes this dispersed route easier. Check current licence requirements before booking. Bus travel is possible but needs fewer stops and more transfer time; use actual timetables rather than the driving version of the itinerary.

For a shorter day or different weather

In strong wind, keep to suitable sheltered activities and omit exposed cliff paths or ferries. A museum or indoor attraction can replace the coast after checking its location. Udo is optional, not something to attempt when return conditions are uncertain.

Before you go

Check crater access, ferry operation and vehicle arrangements. Confirm whether your accommodation is in Jeju City or the east, as this changes daily travel. The plan covers one part of the island; three days are not enough for every major region at a relaxed pace.
